Running a business requires vision, hard work, and perseverance. But what happens when things aren’t moving as fast as you expected? When the clients, sales, or opportunities you prayed for seem delayed, it’s easy to feel discouraged.
In 2 Corinthians 5:7, the Bible reminds us:
👉🏽 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
This means we must trust God beyond what we can see, feel, or understand. Even when business is slow, when deals fall through, or when your plans don’t unfold as expected, God is still working behind the scenes.
God’s Timing vs. Our Timeline
One of the hardest lessons in business—and in life—is understanding that God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t match our own expectations.
We live in a world where everything moves fast. Social media highlights success stories of overnight millionaires, viral brands, and people who seem to have it all together. But what we don’t see is the years of preparation, obedience, and faithfulness that went into their journey before their breakthrough came.
Biblical Examples of Patience in the Process
God’s greatest promises are often fulfilled after a season of waiting and preparation. Let’s look at a few examples:
Joseph (Genesis 37-50) – Joseph had a dream that he would one day be in a position of power. But before that happened, he was betrayed, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Even in the waiting, he remained faithful, and in God’s perfect timing, he was elevated to second-in-command in Egypt.
David (1 Samuel 16-31) – David was anointed king as a young boy, but he didn’t take the throne right away. He spent years in the wilderness, facing trials and challenges, before stepping into his divine assignment.
Abraham & Sarah (Genesis 12-21) – God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations, yet he and Sarah waited decades before having their son, Isaac. The promise didn’t come immediately, but it did come.
Why Waiting is a Part of the Process
When you are walking in faith and trusting God in your business, waiting is never wasted. God uses the waiting season to prepare you for the blessings He has for you.
Here’s what happens in the waiting:
✔️ God develops your character. Success before maturity can be dangerous. The waiting season teaches patience, humility, and resilience.
✔️ God positions the right opportunities. Sometimes, doors don’t open right away because they aren’t ready for you yet—or you aren’t ready for them.
✔️ God strengthens your faith. Trusting Him when you don’t see results stretches your faith and deepens your relationship with Him.
How to Wait Well in Business
If you feel like your business is in a season of delay, don’t lose heart. Here are some ways to stay encouraged while trusting God’s timing:
Pray for Direction & Clarity
Instead of asking, “Why is this taking so long?” ask, “Lord, what do You want me to learn in this season?” Seek wisdom through prayer and the Word.
Take Faithful Action
Faith is not passive; it requires movement. Even if you don’t see results yet, keep showing up, keep working, and keep preparing.
Resist the Urge to Compare
Your journey is yours. Don’t compare your business growth to someone else’s highlight reel. What’s for you will come at the right time.
Speak Life Over Your Business
Your words have power. Instead of saying, “It’s not working,” declare, “God is preparing something greater than I can imagine.”
Trust that God is Working Behind the Scenes
Even when you don’t see movement, God is aligning the right people, resources, and opportunities for you. Your obedience today will lead to your breakthrough tomorrow.
